Pretty Little Things: Dolls & Textiles Edition

We are in Al Sadu House – the home of textiles – for our third installment and for that reason we have created a way to include an element of our beautiful venue in the theme of the show. We’ve called it the “Dolls & Textiles Edition” because we have commissioned a group of regional designers to dress fabric dolls in their signature creations. These fabulous creations will be sold to benefit our cause: building a second Pretty Little Things house in the orphanage. Come see our progress on the first house, celebrate our successes, and contribute to our next one. We will of course have our outdoor seating area, serve pots of complimentary tea, and have delicious burgers, grilled pizzas, crepe and frozen yogurt from Munch and Milk.

PLT Event: Judith Leiber X Razan Al Azzouni

Another PLT, and another evening full of style and pretty little things. PLT’s Judith Leiber X Razan Al Azzouni was hosted at Gallery 220 two days ago and was a true fashion night out! Not only it marked the beginning of a charitable affiliation, it also marked the debut of Judith Leiber’s Fall 2012 collection in the Middle East. Renowned American handbag designer Judith Leiber has teamed up with Saudi Arabian label Threads by Razan Alazzouni to produce an exclusive collection of clothing and bags to benefit children’s charities in the region.

Judith Leiber has, for decades, ruled the world of high fashion handbags, with each bag regarded as a unique work of art. Her pieces are beautiful and dazzling. Pure joy to hold!

Something special from Judith Leiber was the concept for the Children’s Art Bag; a unique personalized bag with a replica of a child’s art work in Austrian Crystals. This concept follows in the Judith Leiber tradition of art and design at its best, keeping alive the sentiments and talents of the children, by creating a priceless family heirloom.

Moving on to Razan Alazzouni’s yet another great collection, beautiful fabrics, feminine sparkle, and flattering designs, what more would a girl ask for!

The cute set up was a collaborative effort with The House of Etiquette

And Khaleejesque Magazine was the media sponsor.

PlT’s Noaf Hussein was looking as adorable as ever <3 Have I mentioned how I love this girl and her pretty little talents?

Event Coverage: Pretty Little Things 2

Yesterday marked the opening day for Pretty Little Things, second exhibition. One of my personal favorite events of the year! The details put behind the wonderful outcome are absolutely breathtaking, and you can feel it in every corner!

The first PLT exhibition was very much smaller, both is size and the number of participants, this year it’s a full pledged exhibition with many participants showcasing their work from Kuwait and from the region!

Starting with Pieces By Farah, an amazing creativity and gorgeous home decor and accessories that would be an eye-catch to whoever lays their eyes on! I loved the lay out, the colors, and functionality of each and every piece! Such a true artist!

Moving to Paper Design by Fudha Al Ateeqi, my style exactly! The simplicity and the romantic feel behind the items would just fit my mood anytime, any day!

Eye-candy at the beautiful Garden-Like display, May Jewelry; It’s always a pleasure seeing her work, and this time I couldn’t resist, I ordered my a cute little ring with my initial on it from the new collection. It’s gonna be ready within 4 weeks :D

Th’haba Jewelry was also there, I’ve been eye some of her pieces for a while, I’m gonna be running out of patience and ordering some of her gorgeous rings very soon!

BabyB is the place to go to for all mommies, and expecting mommies-to-be! Such cute stuff for the little precious ones.

Threads by Razan Alazzouni were showcasing their great work all the way from Saudi Arabia, I spent a bit over 2 hours at PLT yesterday, and they kept selling out and displaying new collection on the shelves every time I passed by! The crowd was loving her work!

The quirkiness can never be complete without The Yard! The bizarre, out of the ordinary style has always been what they’re about! And you will never have enough!

A new idea that I saw was Lina Jewelry Design, with a collection of handmade gold-plated crochet jewelry! It sure is exotic and very unique!

And guess who was there too?! Fyunka! All the way from Saudi Arabia with the cutest collection of shopping bags, makeup pouches, and totes!

Another jewelry designer I’m glad I met is Muneera Al Sharhan; a designer who works with sterling silver and her hands creating very contemporary pieces with a twist of art and a tribal feel! Loved her work!

So Lulu by Lubna Al Nakib was there! I’ve been hearing about them for a while, never saw their pieces, very bold full of statement for sure!

Press Designs by Sylvette Blaimont are showcasing a very interesting collection of stationary and jewelry! I’ve come across them in several occasions before, however, for some reason, I never knew about their jewelry line! Such exceptional pieces with an inspirational story behind every piece!

The donation list! Since this PLT is coming back with a cause, and that is to renovate an entire building at the orphanage, donation were being made throughout the evening for that purpose. Every contribution matters, and donation will be accepted until the last day of the event, Tuesday, May 1st.

Solo Churros were passing around some heavenly chocolate shots with a twist! If you drink your shot and find a chocolate bean in it, you would win a Diamond! An actual one! Too bad I didn’t see who the lucky winner was ;)

Of course, we had to goof around a little bit before leaving and we put our FishFayce on for a fun memory! Super fun and cute!

The outdoor seating area looked so tempting that we spent over an hour chilling there with our tea and food supplies from Milk Cafe and Munch bbq. By the time we left, we were FULL!

And that’s a wrap! Thanks to Ms. Noaf Hussein for her sweet invitation, PLT is looking better by the second and we know how much work and effort that takes!

Make sure to pass by PLT at Sadu House before the closing on Tuesday, May 1st, there’s a lot to see and support to be made for a cause. Follow PLTQ8 on twitter for more details.

Pretty Little Things is Back!

Remember PLT? Pretty little things in one social event that everyone was talking about towards the end of last year?! Well The second Pretty Little Things will take place at Al Sadu House from April 28th – May 1st; and this time they are coming back with a cause! With the help of Abyat, they will aid the efforts of Khair Al-Kuwait Charity Foundation to renovate the local orphanage. They actually have a goal of renovating an entire building at the orphanage through 3 ways:

1) Some items will be donated by Abyat
2) The rest will be placed on a wish list, from which event goers can pledge from. PLT get them at a discount, you get to see and choose exactly what your money buys.
3) At the same time, PLT will set up a charity art installation at the event to raise funds, which they will use to buy what’s left on the wish list post-event.

How to help?

1) Show up
2) Help out with the wish list or take part in the charity installation at the event
3) Spread the word
4) Remember that every little bit counts
5) Feel great about your contribution

I’m definitely adding this to my schedule! If you are too, RSVP, here.

Stay tuned for more information on participating brands from Kuwait, and the region!

My Chit-Chat With: Green Bar’s Reem Al Kalifa

Reem Al Khalifa, a young woman who comes from Bahrain with a passion you cannot help but gaze into; a craze for nature and an obsession with beauty – The deadly mixture. She’s got it all. A true inspiration that I rarely see anymore! It’s refreshing for the soul and stimulating for the senses.

I had the pleasure of meeting her on her current visit to Kuwait and having this wonderful chat, read and enjoy dolls:

- Who is Reem Al Kahlifa?

The sister of many girls, the eldest! I’m pretty practical, I do a lot of Yoga, and I’m an environmentalist who loves to travel and explore.

Picture above taken via Confashions.

- When did your fascination with beauty products start?

As a child, I used to hang out in a lot of pharmacies for a really long time! I was always very interested in alchemy and herbs. I loved nature! My memories as a 10-year-old revolve around being in the garden; I remember how amazing a bush of tomatoes would smell! Plants are my passion.

- Tell us about the birth of Green Bar?

Whenever I went shopping for beauty products; I wasn’t too crazy about my finds in the market. There was a gap that I couldn’t fill. I did not understand the ingredients and I thought they were too complicated for my skin! At that point of time, I decided to go to the ‘Hawwaj’ in Bahrain, I was not satisfactory for my passion though. The oils were not of premium quality, they did not smell that good, and they were sold in little quantities. Until one day, I stumbled upon an article in Aramco World about Hunza Valley, where the world’s finest apricots come from. I was truly inspired by the article and decided to launch my first product without modifying the name; the word ‘apricot’ is beautiful in both English and Arabic. This is when Green Bar Apricot and Grapefruit Body Oil was born. It’s a way to manifest my belief through, and it is a very simple thing that nobody was doing until I decided to take responsibility for. The key of Green Bar is the ingredients; exquisite and naturally extravagant, behind each ingredient there is a culture, history, and a story to tell.

I started with oil because I believe it’s very luxurious and it takes a life of its own. I’m dying to know plants! To me, they have a personality and a character, and Infusing them really inspires me. I care a lot about countries and region and story. Sometimes, a concept starts with a country I would like to travel to, a place, or a time. I have a tremendous love for the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia that I’m exploring through oils. I’m very interested about the origin of the ingredients. It’s fulfilling for me as a person to be exploring my love and the world through Green Bar.

- What is your signature best-selling product?

The face elixir and the rose-water collection are my hits. I personally sourced the rose-water from Oman, Turkey, and Morocco, and it’s had a great reaction from the crowd.

- What is your personal favorite product?

The frangipani body oil, which translates into ‘Indian jasmine’, a tree that grows in the region and hot countries. It’s a seasonal tree, so the product as well is limited to certain times of the year.

- What it your upcoming creation?

A Vanilla based product is on the way for summer 2012; a smell that mosquitoes hate and we love. An exquisite natural product that has so much love.

- In the world of beauty, what inspires you?

Cleopatra! I think she would be really impressed with Green Bar!

- How do you feel about your visit to Kuwait, and how are women reacting to your products?

I’m really enjoying Kuwait! I Love dealing with educated crowd. Thanks to Nouf Hussein, I believe I’ve received the best impression about Kuwait. Meeting with these women, and with the bloggers had been great! I appreciate people who read and have opinions and when working with such I’m much more satisfied.

- What do you feel differentiates the women of Kuwait from women in other countries in the region?

The women of Kuwait are very educated and well-travelled. They are very knowledgeable with shopping, in a good way. They don’t just buy something but they have an opinion about it and that is incredibly positive.

- How can beauties get hold of Green Bar treasures?

Green Bar mainly operates through www.greenbarinc.com, we are launching our online shop within weeks time for everybody to find us. However, if you are in Bahrain, Green Bar is available in selected beauty products stores.

- A beauty secret?

Green bar is my beauty secret. Every single product is my ritual; they make my life so comfortable.

Of course, at the end of our sit down, I couldn’t resist but getting myself some of these babies, and those were my picks, The Face Elixir, and the Almond & Amber Body Oil! Absolutely love them!

Thank you so much, Reem A Khalifa, for being as sweet as you are, and for being truly inspiring talking about your passion; it was a wonderful chat.

For more information on Green Bar, follow them @Green Bar Inc, or visit their website, www.greenbarinc.com.

Event Coverage: Pretty Little Things

Remember couple of days ago, when I posted about PLT? Well, I got the chance yesterday to go to the pre-opening, bloggers evening for a sneak-peak to share with you dolls!

When we first arrived, I couldn’t help but notice the cutest outdoor seating area, all prepped up with heaters, blankies, tea pots & flowers! Super cute! Wish I had some time to sit around!

As soon as we stepped foot in the villa, we were welcomed by Ms. Noaf Hussein, the organizer of the evening. She was sweet enough to help us find our way around.

First thing I laid eyes on is Green Bar! And oh-boy! Finally! I’ve been hearing about them for a while and really wanted to know what’s the deal all about! Guess what, I absolutely fell in love! Amazing fragrances with an amazing texture! Will be going to get couple of things I got my eyes on, and will share with you when I do.

Second stop was May Jewelry. I was also very excited to see their items; loved them when I visited their website the other day but was a bit worried to order online! But now that I saw them I loved them even more! I have a design for something in mind, hope they can make it happen.

Oh ya, before I forget, this is for the gentlemen out there, please take note that this wonderful bracelet is the valentine’s special, and May Jewelry are taking orders for it as we speak. So come on, make some effort & place the order to make your woman happy! It’s rose gold, with a diamond (or any other stone of your choice) and it spells the word ‘love’ in calligraphy arabic. Elegant & very classy!

Moving on to The Yard; the girls behind the beautiful quirky items were not able to be there, so they left their photo with a note! Super lovely!

I just love The Yard; the classic vintagy feel to their items is one of me absolute favorites.

Next up, Qumar 14! I remember when I was first introduced to the name last ramadan when I saw their collection and loved it. Beautiful designs.

Silsal Ceramics had the biggest share of the place I think; I love calligraphy..It adds the magical oriental feel to everything..All there stuff feel like they came out from fairytale wonderland!

Such a cute Christmas Tree with Arabic-letters ornaments!

Goji Boutique were there too! With their ever lasting elegance and stylish taste, it’s always a pleasure seeing them around.

Last stop was Baby B; I’m loving baby stuff too much lately for some reason! They have the cutest albums and frames.

Everything is so tiny!

And’s that was it ladies! Got your virtual tour even before the opening! It was really fun and a very cozy event..Thanks to Ms. Noaf Hussein for the kind invitation and for being super sweet. And thank you, Green Bar, May Jewelry, The Yard, Silsal Ceramics, Goji Boutique, Baby B, Firin Gluten Free Bakery, and F.Naqi Institute for all the Pretty Little Things we took home with us. Xx

PLT opens today, Tuesday, December 6th until 8th @Villa Mini Boutiques located in Adaliya, Block 2, Abdulla Al Hajeri stree, house # 16.
